Programs that keep you safer

Simple steps that make a real difference when every second counts.

Close Before You Doze

“Close Before You Doze” is a campaign from UL's Fire Safety Research Institute. In older “legacy” homes built with dimensional lumber and furnished with natural materials, people had an average of 17–24 minutes to escape a fire. In a modern home, that time can be as little as 2–3 minutes.

UL FSRI's testing showed it is much safer to sleep with your bedroom door closed: a closed door acts as a protective barrier against heat and smoke and buys you time.

Knox Box rapid entry

The Knox-Box Rapid Entry System lets the fire department use one master key to reach keys, access cards and floor plans stored in a high-security lock box at your entrance. That means no waiting for an owner in the middle of the night and no forcing doors, which reduces property damage, access time and the liability of lost keys.

Station 112 encourages Knox boxes for any property with automatic fire detection, and for homes where medical emergencies are frequent. Our master key is held in retention hardware that requires a unique PIN, and every release is logged and audited by department leadership.
